Fund's motivations with women begin with sexual exploitation, but since he was also highly political and manipulative extends to the use of women for other purposes. The intimacy of sex moves women to assume a connection which is frequently absent even with normal men. With a psychopath love becomes a license to steal. Psychotic males use women in a wide variety of ways as a matter of course.
For instance, in the case of Gail Heriot he exploited her sexually, causing her, a woman who was in late middle age and never married, to invest emotionally in him, but also used her to launch an offensive action against Morgan and Melinda. Heriot cooperated with putting up a libelous site, which originally used her address, she sent out libelous letters, also sending legal papers from the fax machine of her place of business, San Diego School of Law supposedly signed by Fund. We provide a comparison of the signatures.
As you can see from the email she sent Fund on, " 1/13/02
10:05 PM, subject line , "Silly?
Yes. But what's a girl to do?" Ms. Heriot believed she had found someone who would fill empty places in her life. After all, we cannot spend all of our time looking at squirrels and raccoons in the back yard. Fund manipulated Heriot into believing him, using sex and pleas for understanding. The Pity Party, characterized variously as storms of tears, self denunciations, protests that only the present individual, now so essential to their happiness, could understand, is known as "The Pity Party" when carried out by a psychopath. None of it is real. See the Raimondo article where Fund's use of The Pity Party is also documented. Melinda first experienced it in 1981.In each instance Fund viewed the woman in terms of how they could be useful to him. His long time pursuit of Kellyanne Fitzpatrick Conway and Diane Sykes both fall in this category. Lisa Roche, daughter-in-law for George Roche of Hillsdale, provided access to other avenues for power. He perceived each of these women as having more status than himself.
Each of the individuals listed here has a longer term relationship with Fund than many others. Fund routinely went after women he met in the course of his work, for instance House interns, low level journalists, for instance Christine Reis Hall but his eye was always on his own advantage.
With others, having ,for instance useful connections, he was generally careful not to be dismissive the morning after. An example of this is his 'romance' with Leslie George, daughter of Clair George. With George Fund took her on a romantic weekend to New Hampshire the day he moved in with Pillsbury. At the time Fund was working towards a close relationship with Clair George, Leslie's father. Leslie was his way in. This did not work out as he hoped. Clair George told his daughter he thought Fund was a sociopath. Leslie shared this with Morgan in this email.
Fund also lacked the ethical and moral limits which would have prevented him from seducing those close to friends and former lovers, for instance Morgan Pillsbury. This is also typical of psychopaths.
Because of societal attitudes on sex and the shame women still feel when badly treated in relationships, it would not be surprising if Fund gave women no other cause to keep quiet. But, in fact, he threatened women routinely to exact their silence. Lea Dudley is an example of this. Lea, who Morgan bumped into on , was simply someone attractive who was working in his own industry. But the behavior she reports on the tape show a side of Fund which few women are willing to discuss for all of the reasons stated. With Dudley the reasons includes a series of ugly threats, which she discusses.
Other women, for instance Carol Divine Molin, were more correctly categorized as 'on the make' politically and provides sex and other services for other reasons.
