By Courage to Resist. April 17, 2010
In a joyous victory for Specialist Marc A Hall and his supporters
nationwide, this morning the US Army announced that the “Stop-loss”
objector will not be court martialed next week at Camp Liberty, Iraq as
scheduled. Instead, Spc Hall will be discharged immediately. In
December, the Army jailed Spc Hall in retaliation for his formal
complaint of inadequate mental health services available to him at Fort
Stewart. The Army used an angry song that Spc Hall, a combat veteran of
the Iraq War suffering from post traumatic stress, had produced
criticizing the “Stoploss” policy as the pretext. MORE

5 Latest Republican National Committee Embarrassments
Here are 5 bad things that have happened to the Republican National Committee in the past 24 hours:
1) Robert Gibbs slammed RNC Chairman Michael Steele for claiming
recent criticism (like that the RNC shouldn’t spend donor money on strip
clubs) is tied to his race. Said Gibbs, “I think Michael Steele’s
problem isn’t the race card, it’s the credit card.” MORE

Rodney Alcala: The Fine Art of Killing
One man’s murderous romp through polite society
Rodney Alcala is a man stuck in a time warp, his flowing silver hair, granny glasses, beige blazer and jeans reminiscent of a creative-writing professor circa 1980, the year he began life behind bars. As he walked into an Orange County Superior Court room one recent day, news photographers snapped his lean, no-longer-handsome face. His handcuffs were removed, he picked up a pen with his left hand and waited for Orange County Superior Court Judge F.P. Briseno to bring in the 12 jurors who will decide if he should die or spend the rest of his life in prison — or, though exceedingly unlikely, go free. MORE

Two Teen Girls Take on GlaxoSmithKline
This is one of the coolest David & Goliath stories I’ve heard of in a while. As part of a science experiment, two 14 year old girls from New Zealand set out to test the amount of vitamin C in a popular black currant drink. Ribena’s marketing campaign suggested that the black currants in Ribena syrup had four times the Vitamin C of oranges, but the teen girls discovered that the syrup actually had about ¼ the vitamin C of oranges, and that the ready to drink form of Ribena had no detectable Vitamin C content at all!

Any citizen in New Hampshire can bring a petition article to his or her Town Warrant by securing the signatures of at least 25 registered voters. The article is then added to the Town Warrant to be voted on in Town meeting.
On Saturday, the citizens of Lyndeborough, NH, resoundingly approved enacting into the town's laws the following warrant article regarding the counting of votes. I hope that NH citizens all around the state will enact the same law in their towns at next year's Town Meetings.
Here is the petition citizens signed to add the article below regarding the counting of votes to the Town Warrant...

Possible Psychopath at the NY Times? Using a 'pity party' to evade the consequences is SOP for psychopaths.
This item from Page Six of the NY Post Dated March 5th.
DC insiders are buzzing that John Harwood, a CNBC Washington correspondent and political writer for the New York Times, has split with his wife, Frankie Blackburn, and has dated Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) According to well-placed sources, Harwood has kept it out of one DC paper by sobbing to a reporter until he agreed to kill the story. When asked repeatedly about the split, Harwood told Page Six, "I don't feel comfortable talking about my family life." But he did say the crying part "is absolutely not true." A Cantwell spokesman in DC had no comment.

Why Can't the ACLU help Richard Fine?
What happens when you cross those in power.
On March 4, 2010 it will be one year in the L.A. County Jail for Richard I. Fine, who accused Superior Court Judge Yaffe of corruption for taking illegal payments from the L.A. County in a case involving the County of Los Angeles. The ACLU has been called in to prevent inmate abuse by the L. A. County Jailers who are holding Fine in solitary “Coercive Confinement” in Central Men’s jail for contempt of court by order of Superior Court Judge David P. Yaffe.
Having never been
convicted of a crime, Richard I. Fine,
a 70 year old anti-trust attorney, who holds a Ph.D in International
Law, has been held without a trial and without bail and no hearing or
release date. These are circumstances in violation of U.S. Supreme
Court precedent, In Re Farr (1974), where the five day
limit on “coercive confinement” in civil contempt of court cases must
apply. MORE
